Emmanuel Sougez (1889, 1972) was a pioneering French photographer known for his mastery of still life and his precise, classical aesthetic. He was a central figure in French photography during the mid-twentieth century, serving as the head of photography at the illustrated magazine L'Illustration for over two decades. Sougez was also a co-founder of the group Le Rectangle, which championed a purist, formalist approach to photography as a fine art.
