Edwin Lord Weeks (1849, 1903) was an American Orientalist painter renowned for his vivid depictions of North Africa, Persia, and the Indian subcontinent, which he explored through extensive travels during the 1880s and 1890s. Trained in Boston and Paris under Léon Bonnat and Jean-Léon Gérôme, his richly detailed canvases captured the architecture, markets, and daily life of the East with remarkable luminosity. His works were celebrated at the Paris Salon and earned him the Legion of Honour, and they continue to command strong prices at major auction houses including Sotheby's and Christie's.
