Edmund Teske (1911, 1996) was an American photographer known for his deeply expressive and experimental black-and-white imagery that blended surrealism, mysticism, and darkroom experimentation. He pioneered techniques such as solarization, composite printing, and duotone solvent transfer to create dreamlike, layered photographs that explored themes of spirituality, sexuality, and the human condition. A protégé of Frank Lloyd Wright and influenced by his time in Chicago and Los Angeles, Teske became a significant figure in 20th-century American photography, bridging the gap between straight photography and avant-garde visual art.
