Deana Lawson creates powerful photographic portraits of Black subjects that combine documentary directness with carefully staged compositions. Her work explores intimacy, sexuality, and the African diaspora through images that exist between reality and fiction. She represented the United States at the 2024 Venice Biennale and exhibits with Sikkema Jenkins.
