Works
'Circle of George Romney' is an attribution used by auction houses to describe works produced by artists closely associated with, trained by, or working in the immediate stylistic orbit of the prominent British portrait painter George Romney (1734, 1802). These works share Romney's characteristic approach to portraiture, including his fluid brushwork, idealized facial features, and elegant compositional sensibility, but cannot be definitively attributed to Romney's own hand. Such designations reflect the collaborative and workshop-based nature of eighteenth-century British portrait painting.
