Christer Strömholm (1918, 2002) was a pioneering Swedish photographer renowned for his deeply humanistic and intimate black-and-white portraits, most famously his decade-long documentation of transgender women living on Place Blanche in Paris during the 1950s and 1960s. Often called the father of Swedish photography, he was a founding figure of Fotografiska Sällskapet and profoundly influenced generations of Scandinavian photographers. His raw, empathetic imagery blurred the boundaries between documentary and fine art photography.
