Boris Mikhailovich Kustodiev (1878, 1927) was a celebrated Russian painter known for his vibrant, idealized depictions of provincial Russian merchant life, folk traditions, and festive scenes. Trained under Ilya Repin at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg, he developed a distinctive style blending realism with decorative folk art influences. Despite being confined to a wheelchair in his later years due to a spinal tumor, he continued to produce some of his most iconic and colorful works.
