Bartolomé Esteban Murillo was one of the most celebrated Spanish Baroque painters of the 17th century, renowned for his tender religious compositions and naturalistic genre scenes depicting street children and peasants. Born in Seville, he spent most of his career there, producing devotional works for churches and convents that earned him widespread acclaim across Europe. His soft, luminous style and emotionally accessible imagery made him one of the most collected Spanish masters at auction, with works regularly appearing at Christie's, Sotheby's, and other major houses.
