Bartholomeus van Bassen was a Dutch-Flemish architect and painter active in the early 17th century, renowned for his meticulously detailed architectural interior paintings depicting imaginary church interiors, palace halls, and Renaissance spaces. He worked primarily in The Hague and was one of the pioneers of the architectural interior as an independent genre in Northern European painting. His works often featured small staffage figures painted by collaborators such as Esaias van de Velde and Frans Francken the Younger.
