Baldassare Franceschini, known as Volterrano (1611, 1689), was a leading Florentine Baroque painter celebrated for his luminous frescoes, altarpieces, and cabinet paintings. Born in Volterra, he trained under Giovanni da San Giovanni and became a favorite of the Medici court, producing exuberant decorative cycles for Florentine villas and palaces.
