John E. Ferneley (1782, 1860) was a celebrated British sporting artist best known for his dynamic equestrian paintings, hunting scenes, and portraits of racehorses and their owners. A pupil of Benjamin Marshall, he spent much of his career based in Melton Mowbray, the heart of the English fox-hunting country, attracting aristocratic and sporting clientele. Works attributed to him suggest compositions closely aligned with his style, though definitive authorship remains unconfirmed by scholars.
