Antoine Vollon (1833, 1900) was a French realist painter celebrated for his richly textured still lifes, particularly his depictions of food, kitchen objects, and everyday domestic items rendered with striking luminosity and bravura brushwork. A self-taught artist who rose from an engraver's apprenticeship in Lyon, he became one of the most acclaimed still-life painters of 19th-century France, winning numerous medals at the Paris Salon. His work, deeply influenced by Dutch Golden Age masters and Chardin, commands strong prices at auction for its sumptuous handling of light and materiality.
