Anne Brigman (1869, 1950) was an American pictorialist photographer known for her evocative, symbolist images of the female nude in natural landscapes, particularly in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. A member of Alfred Stieglitz's Photo-Secession group, she was one of the few West Coast artists to gain recognition in the New York-centered avant-garde photography world of the early 20th century. Her work celebrated a mystical connection between the human body and nature, and she was elected a fellow of the Photo-Secession, a rare honor that reflected Stieglitz's high regard for her pioneering vision.
