Agnes Denes is a conceptual and environmental artist known for pioneering ecological art and large-scale environmental installations. Her landmark work "Wheatfield, A Confrontation" (1982) involved planting and harvesting two acres of wheat on a landfill in lower Manhattan, confronting issues of waste, mismanagement, and world hunger. Her interdisciplinary practice spans sculpture, environmental works, and philosophical inquiries, and is held by institutions including MoMA, the Whitney Museum, and the Centre Pompidou.
