Maarten de Vos (1532, 1603) was a leading Flemish painter and draughtsman of the late Renaissance, known for his large-scale altarpieces, religious compositions, and portraits. He trained under Pieter Coecke van Aelst in Antwerp and later worked in Italy alongside Tintoretto, absorbing Venetian colorism that would define his mature style. Returning to Antwerp, he became one of the most prolific and sought-after painters of his era, also producing numerous designs for engravings widely disseminated across Europe.
