Byron Browne (1907, 1961) was an American painter and a pioneering figure in the development of American abstract art. A founding member of the American Abstract Artists group in 1936, he worked in a style that synthesized Cubism and abstraction with influences from Picasso and Braque, creating energetic compositions that bridged European modernism and American artistic identity. Browne was also a respected teacher at the Art Students League in New York, where he influenced a generation of artists.
