Ida Applebroog (born 1929) is an American artist known for her provocative and politically charged paintings, drawings, and installations that explore themes of power, violence, gender, memory, and the human condition. Her work often incorporates fragmented narratives, theatrical imagery, and recurring figures rendered in a deliberately flat, graphic style that draws on comic strips, medical illustrations, and film stills. Considered a significant feminist voice in contemporary art, Applebroog has been exhibited widely and received a MacArthur Fellowship in 1998.
