Leonard Baskin (1922, 2000) was an American sculptor, graphic artist, and printmaker known for his powerful figurative works that explored themes of mortality, the human condition, and the darker aspects of existence. He founded the Gehenna Press in 1942, producing fine limited-edition books, and became a prominent figure in 20th-century American art through his expressive woodcuts, bronzes, and drawings. His work frequently depicted birds, particularly owls and crows, alongside human figures rendered with raw emotional intensity.
