Maripol

Maripol (born Marie Paule Calle) is a French-born, New York-based artist, photographer, and stylist who became a pivotal figure in the downtown Manhattan art and club scene of the late 1970s and 1980s. She is best known for her intimate Polaroid photographs documenting icons such as Madonna, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Debbie Harry, capturing the raw energy of the era's underground culture. Her work spans photography, jewelry design, filmmaking, and mixed media, and she played a significant role in shaping the visual identity of early Madonna through her styling work.
