Grand Dukes Theater was originally founded in 1872 by newsboys, thugs and bootblacks under a gang clubhouse in the Five Points neighborhood of Manhattan. The audience were treated to amateur entertainments for 5 cents a pop. The place was considered unsafe for girls.
