A Large Apulian Red-figured Panathenaic Amphora, attributed to the Iliupersis Painter, circa 350-330 B.C.
This monumental ancient Greek vessel exemplifies the red-figure technique perfected in the Apulian workshops of southern Italy during the late Classical period. The Iliupersis Painter, known for his narrative compositions depicting scenes from Greek mythology, decorated this Panathenaic amphora with carefully rendered figures against the characteristic black gloss background. Such amphorae served both practical purposes as containers for olive oil and ceremonial functions within Athens' prestigious Panathenaic Games festival.
