“ I love all dots. With many dots I am married. I want all dots to be happy. The dots are my brothers. I am also a dot.” Sigmar Polke
A playful yet philosophically charged work, Polke uses acrylic and dispersion on fabric to explore his lifelong fascination with the dot as a fundamental unit of image-making, communication, and existence. The irregular, tactile surface of the fabric absorbs and disrupts the paint, lending the work an organic, almost living quality that echoes the artist's whimsical declaration of kinship with his subject. True to his Capitalist Realism roots and his subversion of Pop Art's mechanical dot, Polke transforms a simple mark into a meditation on unity, identity, and the democratic nature of artistic materials.
