Naama Tsabar — Work On Felt (Variation 8) Bordeaux

Work On Felt (Variation 8) Bordeaux

2016

Work on Felt (Variation 8) Bordeaux invites the viewer into a charged intersection of sculpture and sound, where a deep wine-hued expanse of industrial felt is tautly stretched across a carbon fiber and epoxy armature, its surface punctuated by a single piano string anchored to a guitar tuner. The string, drawn to tension across the felt plane, transforms the entire object into a playable instrument, one whose resonance is captured and amplified so that the work literally vibrates into the surrounding space when touched. Naama Tsabar's formal choices are precise and deliberate, with the soft acoustic absorption of the felt held in productive contradiction against the rigid, aerospace-grade carbon fiber, creating a physical dialogue between vulnerability and structural force. Produced in 2016, this work belongs to Tsabar's celebrated Variation series, which has been exhibited internationally and acquired by major institutional collections, establishing her reputation as one of the most conceptually rigorous voices working at the convergence of minimalist sculpture and performance practice. The bordeaux coloration lends the piece a bodily, almost skin-like presence that deepens its implicit charge around touch, intimacy, and activation, themes central to Tsabar's broader investigation of how objects encode and release latent energy. The amplifier component ensures the sculpture never remains entirely passive, holding the potential for sound within its form even in stillness. For collectors, the work offers a rare opportunity to acquire a sculptural object that is simultaneously a functioning instrument, a wall-based composition of considerable visual authority, and a conceptual statement about the porous boundary between art and performance. Measuring over 190 centimeters in height and extending nearly 90 centimeters into the room, it commands architectural space without dominating it, adapting fluidly to both institutional and private residential contexts. Offered through Spinello Projects, this signed example represents a defining moment in Tsabar's practice.
