Naama Tsabar, Work On Felt (Variation 12), Burgundy

2016

Work on Felt (Variation 12), Burgundy presents a taut, wall-mounted construction in which a carbon fiber rod is stretched across a field of deep burgundy felt, creating a tension that is simultaneously sculptural and musical. The rod, fixed at both ends with hardware that recalls industrial rigging as much as instrument-making, functions as a playable string, connected through embedded electronics to a guitar amplifier. Sound is therefore not merely a conceptual possibility but a live, physical potential held within the object at all times. The felt absorbs, the carbon fiber conducts, and the resulting piece occupies the charged territory between visual art and acoustic instrument. Tsabar's practice consistently interrogates the boundaries of what a surface can do, treating walls and architectural planes as sites of latent energy rather than passive support. This work belongs to her celebrated Felt series, in which the warmth and tactility of industrial felt is placed in deliberate dialogue with the precision engineering of carbon fiber and electronics. The burgundy coloration deepens the sensory register, giving the work a richness that feels both corporeal and formal. Signed by the artist, the piece carries the conceptual rigor and material sophistication that have positioned Tsabar as a significant voice in contemporary sculpture and sound art. Currently on offer through Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens, this work represents a strong acquisition opportunity for collectors interested in the intersection of performance, sculpture, and sound. Its wall-mounted format integrates naturally into refined residential or institutional contexts, while the amplifier component ensures the work can be activated, transforming the viewing environment into a listening one. Collectors acquire not only a visually compelling object but an invitation to rethink the relationship between a body, a wall, and the resonant possibilities contained within each.
