Two painted cast bronze works by Swiss artist Valentin Carron present interlocking or repeating circular forms rendered in a deep black lacquer finish. Carron's practice often appropriates and recontextualizes vernacular and folk imagery, and here the archaic, almost primitive suggestion of the circle motif is translated into the weight and permanence of cast metal. The tension between the handmade quality of the forms and the industrial slickness of the lacquer surface reflects Carron's ongoing interrogation of authenticity, craft, and cultural symbolism.
