DeLuxe (complete portfolio of 60)
Ellen Gallagher's monumental *DeLuxe* is a portfolio of 60 works that reimagines vintage advertisements sourced from mid-twentieth-century Black publications such as *Ebony* and *Sepia*, transforming their imagery through an extraordinary range of materials and techniques. Gallagher layers aquatint, photogravure, lithography, and silkscreen with highly tactile embellishments including gold leaf, glitter, pomade, toy eyeballs, and velvet, creating a dazzling yet unsettling dialogue between commercial beauty culture and Black identity. The result is a richly seductive and critically charged body of work that interrogates race, representation, and the mythology of transformation embedded in the promise of cosmetic self-reinvention.
