Dirigerer Sibelius, Grieg, Carl Nielsen
Dirigerer Sibelius, Grieg, Carl Nielsen is a series of works in which Not Vital conducted live symphonies by Sibelius, Grieg, and Carl Nielsen while simultaneously creating the prints themselves. With the music blaring throughout his workshop, Vital dipped real conductor's batons into ink and directed the symphonies by drawing directly onto lithograph stones, merging the act of musical performance with mark-making. The resulting works capture the gestural energy and rhythm of each composition, blurring the boundaries between visual art and musical interpretation.
- Medium
- Not Vital executed these works using real symphony conductor batons. With the sounds of the chosen symphony blaring throughout the workshop, the artist dipped the tips of the conductor batons into the ink and actually conducted the symphony himself by drawing on the lithograph stone.
