Ishi Glinsky — Silhouettes on Land #2
Ishi Glinsky

Silhouettes on Land #2

2024

Silhouettes on Land #2 presents two spare, anchored figures rendered against a luminous expanse of ochre and pale ground, their forms simultaneously rooted and weightless within the picture plane. Glinsky works in a layered combination of oil paint, acrylic ink, matte medium, and oil stick, building surfaces that carry a quiet material complexity beneath their seemingly effortless appearance. The matte finish absorbs light rather than reflecting it, lending the canvas an intimate, almost fresco-like presence that rewards close looking. The scale, just over a meter in each direction, is generous enough to draw the viewer into the composition without overwhelming the stillness at its center. Glinsky's practice draws on Indigenous Tohono O'odham heritage as well as a sustained engagement with the history of Western painting, and Silhouettes on Land #2 holds these influences in productive tension. The figures carry the compressed, elemental clarity of petroglyphs while the spatial logic of the composition speaks to a considered understanding of modernist abstraction. There is no narrative urgency here, only a sense of deep, ceremonial presence within a landscape that feels both ancient and entirely now. For collectors, this work represents Glinsky at a confident and mature moment, with strong institutional momentum behind the practice. The canvas is signed and in excellent condition, offered through P.P.O.W, and presents an opportunity to acquire a work of genuine cultural and formal weight from one of the more compelling voices working in figurative painting today.
