Mesoamerican Negative Space 1 is a commanding large-scale work in which Gala Porras-Kim renders the voids, gaps, and absences within Mesoamerican archaeological records rather than the objects themselves. Executed in graphite on paper and sealed beneath epoxy resin set within a metal frame, the piece measures nearly two by three meters, giving the drawn marks a monumental physical presence that rewards sustained looking.
