ZENITH
2022
ZENITH presents four luminous organic forms rendered in metalized porcelain, each surface shimmering with an iridescent, prismatic quality that shifts and deepens in response to surrounding light. The work represents Gisela Colón's first sustained engagement with porcelain, developed over two years in collaboration with the research and development team at the historic French manufacturer Bernardaud at their founding site in Limoges, France. Working within a proprietary laboratory space she affectionately called "La Chambre des Mystères," Colón and Bernardaud scientists pioneered a groundbreaking metallic rendering technique applied directly to the porcelain surface, resulting in a material language entirely new to her practice. The four capsule forms are conceived as celestial bodies containing fragments of the earth, sky, stars, and cosmos, their curvatures inspired by the gravitational pull observed when cosmological objects reach their closest proximity to one another. Colón is best known for her monumental, futuristic sculptures that engage themes of cosmic energy and universal time, and ZENITH translates those concerns into an intimate, collectible scale without diminishing their conceptual weight. The metalized surfaces function as mirrors, reflecting the life and environment around them, making each viewing a subtly different experience depending on context and light. This four-part sculptural set is issued in a limited edition of 75, signed by the artist, and represents the United States release of this celebrated collaboration. Available through the Bronx Museum of the Arts Benefit Auction, the edition arrives directly from Paris as a complete, pristine set, offering collectors an exceptional opportunity to acquire a work that stands at the intersection of fine art, material innovation, and cosmic inquiry.
