Cash Cycle
2018
Carolina Caycedo's Cash Cycle (2018) presents three small-format prints in colors on paper, each mounted under Plexiglas in a composition that amplifies the intimacy of the works through precise, considered framing. The largest sheet measures just three by six and a quarter inches, a deliberately modest scale that draws the viewer into close physical proximity, transforming the act of looking into something almost private. Caycedo, a London-born, Colombian-raised artist long associated with social practice and environmental activism, brings her characteristic interrogation of systems and flows to this series, using the language of print to examine the circulation of capital as a kind of ecological force. The title gestures toward cycles both economic and natural, a pairing central to Caycedo's broader body of work, which frequently maps the movement of resources through communities and landscapes. Here, the printed image functions as both document and critique, situating Cash Cycle within a lineage of politically engaged works that refuse to separate aesthetic refinement from urgent social questions. The works are signed by the artist, attesting to their authenticity, and remain in generally good condition with each print floating and hinged to its back mat within the frame. Collectors should note that the frames are not included in the offering, and the prints have not been examined outside their current housing.
