Captured during the Peninsula Campaign, this albumen print documents the Moore House where British General Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington in 1781. Part of Alexander Gardner's groundbreaking photographic documentation of the Civil War, it represents one of the earliest systematic attempts to record American history through photography.
