Walter Elmer Schofield (1867, 1944) was an American-born painter celebrated for his bold, vigorous landscapes of Cornwall, England, and the Pennsylvania countryside. A leading figure of the Pennsylvania Impressionist school, he was known for his thick, energetic brushwork and his ability to capture the raw power of winter scenes and coastal environments. Schofield achieved international recognition, winning numerous awards on both sides of the Atlantic and exhibiting widely throughout his career.
