Sir Winston Churchill (1874, 1965), best known as British Prime Minister and wartime leader, was also a prolific and passionate amateur painter who produced over 500 works throughout his life. He took up painting in 1915 as a form of solace during the Dardanelles crisis and went on to work primarily in oils, favoring landscapes, interiors, and sun-drenched scenes from the South of France, Morocco, and the English countryside. His work, though considered that of a gifted amateur, has been exhibited at the Royal Academy and continues to attract serious collector interest at major auction houses.
