Zaugg was a conceptual artist and art theorist known for text-based paintings investigating perception, language, and the viewing experience. His collaborations with architect Herzog & de Meuron and writings on museum architecture influenced contemporary exhibition design. His work is held in Kunstmuseum Basel, Centre Pompidou, and MAMCO Geneva.
