Richard Jackson (born 1939) is an American painter known for his radical, room-scale installations in which paint is applied to walls, ceilings, and objects through unconventional means such as throwing, spraying, and embedding paint-filled objects into the surfaces. Working outside the traditions of easel painting, Jackson transforms entire rooms into immersive, exploded canvases that challenge the boundaries between painting, sculpture, and installation. His work has been exhibited internationally and is held in major public and private collections, cementing his reputation as a key figure in the expansion of painting's possibilities in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
