Rebecca Salsbury James (1891, 1968) was an American painter closely associated with the New Mexico modernist circle, particularly known for her intimate still lifes painted on glass. A longtime resident of Taos, she was a close friend of Georgia O'Keeffe and developed a distinctive reverse-glass painting technique that gave her work a luminous, jewel-like quality. Her subjects often included simple domestic objects, flowers, and Southwestern motifs rendered with quiet poetic sensitivity.
