Philippe Cognée is a French painter born in 1957 in Nantes, known for his distinctive technique of applying encaustic (wax-based) paint and then using an iron to melt and blur the surface, creating haunting, pixelated, or dreamlike effects. His works often depict urban landscapes, supermarkets, crowds, and everyday consumer environments, rendered with an unsettling visual distortion that evokes themes of alienation and the excess of modern society.
