Nelson Leirner (1932, 2020) was a pioneering Brazilian conceptual artist known for his irreverent, satirical works that challenged the boundaries of art institutions and consumer culture. He rose to prominence in the 1960s as a founding member of the Rex Group in São Paulo, which criticized the commercial art market through provocative actions and exhibitions. His work, spanning installation, assemblage, and mixed media, often incorporated mass-produced objects, popular imagery, and Brazilian cultural icons to subvert and critique society.
