Moira Dryer (1960, 1992) was a Canadian-born, New York-based painter known for her richly layered works on wood panels, often incorporating theatrical and cinematic references. Her paintings combined abstract gestural elements with a sense of narrative mystery, using unusual materials such as house paint, spray paint, and metallic pigments to create luminous, poetic surfaces. Though her career was cut short by her death at age 31, Dryer gained significant recognition in the New York art world of the late 1980s and early 1990s, and her work continues to be celebrated for its emotional depth and formal innovation.
