Michelle Grabner is an American artist, curator, and educator known for her rigorous pattern-based paintings, often derived from everyday domestic textiles such as dish towels, crocheted afghans, and woven fabrics. Working primarily in painting, printmaking, and sculpture, she systematically translates vernacular craft and domestic patterns into fine art contexts, exploring the boundaries between high and low culture. Grabner is also highly regarded as a critic and academic, serving as a professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and co-curating the 2014 Whitney Biennial.
