Johan Christian Claussen Dahl (1788, 1857) was a Danish-Norwegian Romantic painter widely regarded as the father of Norwegian landscape painting and the founder of the golden age of Norwegian art. He was the first Norwegian artist to achieve international recognition, bringing the dramatic landscapes of his homeland to European audiences. Often compared to Caspar David Friedrich, he held a central position in Norwegian artistic life during the first half of the 19th century.
