Joe Scanlan

Joe Scanlan is an American conceptual artist and educator known for work that critically examines consumerism, domesticity, and the art market itself. His practice spans sculpture, installation, and performance, often incorporating flat-pack furniture and everyday objects to interrogate notions of value, authorship, and commodification. He is perhaps best known for creating the fictional Black artist persona 'Donelle Woolford,' a provocative project that sparked significant debate about race, representation, and appropriation in contemporary art.
