Jin Nong (1687, 1763) was a leading Chinese painter, calligrapher, and poet of the Qing dynasty, renowned as one of the 'Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou.' Self-taught as a painter, he did not take up brush painting until his fifties, developing a highly individualistic style characterized by flat, archaic forms and a unique 'lacquer script' calligraphy. His works, including plum blossoms, bamboo, horses, and Buddhist figures, are prized for their unconventional aesthetics and scholarly inscriptions.
