Jay DeFeo

DeFeo created "The Rose," a monumental impasto painting worked on for eight years that weighed nearly a ton. Her obsessive process and sculptural approach to paint made her a unique figure associated with Abstract Expressionism and Beat culture. She is collected by the Whitney, SFMOMA, and the Guggenheim.
