Jaromír Funke (1896, 1945) was a pioneering Czech photographer widely regarded as one of the founders of avant-garde photography in Czechoslovakia. His work evolved from Pictorialism through Constructivism and Surrealism, exploring abstraction, light, shadow, and geometric composition with great formal rigor. He was also a influential theorist and educator, helping to shape the trajectory of modern Czech photography in the interwar period.
