I Gusti Ayu Kadek Murniasih (1966, 2006), commonly known as Murni, was a pioneering Balinese female artist whose bold, figurative paintings explored themes of female sexuality, desire, and the body with an unflinching and often humorous candor. Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, she challenged the male-dominated Balinese art world and traditional social norms by depicting women's erotic experiences and inner lives from a distinctly female perspective. Her work gained significant international recognition and she is regarded as one of the most important and groundbreaking artists to emerge from Bali.
