Caland created boldly colored paintings and drawings exploring female sexuality, the body, and abstraction, working between Beirut, Paris, and California. Her figurative works from the 1970s featuring fragmented body parts and her later abstract compositions gained renewed attention in the 2010s with exhibitions at Tate St Ives and Tate Modern. She is now recognized as a pioneering feminist artist whose work challenged taboos around female desire.
