Henri-Joseph Harpignies (1819, 1916) was a celebrated French landscape painter associated with the Barbizon School, renowned for his poetic depictions of rural France, riverscapes, and twilight scenes. He studied under Jean-Alexis Achard and was deeply influenced by Camille Corot, developing a distinctive style characterized by delicate tonal harmonies and atmospheric light. Harpignies exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon for over six decades and received numerous official honors, earning the nickname 'the Michelangelo of trees' for his masterful rendering of foliage.
