Friedrich Nerly

Friedrich Nerly (1807, 1878) was a German Romantic painter celebrated for his luminous depictions of Venice and the Italian lagoon, capturing the city's canals, gondolas, and atmospheric light with exceptional delicacy. He settled permanently in Venice in 1835, becoming one of the most sought-after painters of Venetian scenes among aristocratic and bourgeois collectors throughout Europe. His works are frequently featured at major auction houses including Christie's, Sotheby's, and Dorotheum, consistently achieving strong results for his intimate vedute and moonlit nocturnes.
